Development Prospects of the Liszt Ferenc Airport
Based on the increase in volume of air traffic at the Budapest airport, a long-term development plan was developed with an investment volume of about 700 million euros. The money will be invested in the development of infrastructure and the construction of a new terminal. Particularly, the General Director of the Budapest Airport noted that the most important element until 2024 will be design and construction of a completely new terminal next to the existing two.
In 2019, the new logistics center Cargo City with a total area of 20,000 square meters will be created, which will serve the needs of Hungarian export-oriented enterprises and logistics companies cooperating with them.
Also, in the first half of this year, two new passenger safety corridors will be put into operation, the airport waiting areas will be renovated and modernized. The constructed underground railway station will have exits to the new corridor of the building of the new terminal and to the existing building 2B.
Large-scale plans of expansion are based on a sharp increase in passenger traffic at the Ferenc Liszt airport in recent years. In 2018, the airport served 14.86 million passengers, which is 13.5 percent more than a year before.
